Brendon McCullum ने 12 July को England का Test head coach पद छोड़ दिया। Ashes 4-1 और NZ से 2-1 की हार के बाद Bazball पर सवाल उठ रहे हैं। वो white-ball coach बने रहेंगे।
English cricket में एक युग खत्म हो गया। 12 July 2026 को Brendon McCullum ने England का Test head coach पद छोड़ दिया।
लेकिन एक twist है - वो England के white-ball (ODI + T20I) head coach बने रहेंगे।
Test गया, white-ball रहा
ये split अपने आप में पूरी कहानी बता देता है।
McCullum की white-ball coaching में England T20I rankings में No. 1 पहुंची और T20 World Cup में semi-final तक गई। उसी दौरान England ने India को T20I series में 4-0 से हराया - India की format में पहली 4-हार वाली bilateral series।
तो white-ball में सब ठीक था। जो नहीं चला, वो Test cricket थी।

New Zealand वाली home series का हाल देखिए - England ने Lord's में पहला Test 115 runs से जीता, फिर The Oval में 253 runs से और Trent Bridge में 160 runs से हार गई।

ECB का official बयान
ECB ने इसे "step down" बताया, हालांकि कई outlets ने इसे "sacking" कहा। दोनों versions में फर्क है, तो official wording देखिए।

"Brendon breathed new life into England Men's Test team during an exciting period which saw some amazing victories, and we're grateful for all he has given to the role."

McCullum खुद:
"I've absolutely loved coaching the Test side and I'm incredibly proud of what we've achieved together. There've been some unbelievable highs and a few tough days."
"My focus now is on giving everything I've got to the White Ball teams and helping England keep moving forward."
Bazball पर बहस
Kevin Pietersen Bazball के सबसे मुखर आलोचकों में रहे हैं। The Oval में 253 runs की हार के बाद उन्होंने लिखा:
"Jeepers - the [knives] are out for Bazball, a lot quicker than I expected. But, the writing was on the wall a few weeks ago."

"I just need to see England playing with a brain in Test match cricket, it's pretty simple, you've just got to play with the brain."
"You've got to understand that there are situations over 5 days that you can do stuff and there are situations in five days that you can't do stuff."

आलोचना का सार क्या है
Pietersen का point technical नहीं, situational है।
Test cricket 5 दिन की होती है। हर session अलग होता है। कभी attack करना होता है, कभी defend। Bazball की आलोचना ये है कि एक ही approach हर situation में लगा दी जाती है - चाहे match की माँग कुछ भी हो।
दूसरा point ये कि England के best batters असल में उससे कहीं बेहतर हैं जितना ये style उन्हें दिखाने देता है।
दूसरा पक्ष
ईमानदारी से कहें तो Bazball ने England को कुछ यादगार जीतें भी दीं। एक ऐसी team जो 2022 में Test cricket में डूब रही थी, उसे McCullum ने फिर से खड़ा किया। ECB के दोनों बयान भी यही मानते हैं।
सवाल method का नहीं, flexibility का है। क्या एक ही approach हर pitch, हर opponent, हर situation में चल सकती है?
England को अब नया Test coach ढूंढना है. और उसके साथ ये तय करना है कि Bazball आगे भी चलेगा या नहीं.
