IPL Auction क्या है?

IPL Auction एक open bidding process है जहां 10 IPL franchises players को खरीदती हैं. यह cricket का सबसे exciting event है -- एक ही दिन में करोड़ों रुपये के deals होते हैं, unknown players रातों-रात stars बन जाते हैं, और teams की किस्मत बदल जाती है. Auction में हर team के पास एक fixed budget (purse) होता है और उसी में से players पर bid करना होता है.

IPL auction दो तरह के होते हैं -- Mega Auction (हर 3-4 साल, सारे players pool में आते हैं) और Mini Auction (बाकी सालों में, सिर्फ released players और नए players). Mega Auction ज़्यादा exciting होता है क्योंकि इसमें पूरी team नई बनती है.

Salary Cap (Purse) क्या है?

हर IPL team को एक maximum budget मिलता है जिसमें उन्हें अपनी पूरी squad बनानी होती है. इसे salary cap या auction purse कहते हैं. यह amount BCCI हर season decide करता है.

IPL Salary Cap History

Salary cap हर कुछ साल बढ़ता है. 2018 में जो purse 80 crore था, वो 2025 mega auction तक 120 crore हो गया. इसका मतलब teams के पास ज़्यादा पैसे हैं, but player prices भी proportionally बढ़ी हैं.

Important rule: हर team को minimum 18 players रखने होते हैं और maximum 25. इसमें minimum 8 overseas players होने चाहिए (but playing XI में maximum 4 overseas players ही खेल सकते हैं).

Retention Rules कैसे काम करती हैं?

Mega Auction से पहले teams को कुछ players retain करने का option मिलता है. Retention का मतलब है कि team पहले से decide कर लेती है कि कुछ important players को auction में नहीं जाने देना.

Retention Cost Structure (2025 Mega Auction)

Maximum 6 players retain कर सकते हैं -- 5 capped + 1 uncapped Indian player. Retention cost purse से deduct होती है. मतलब अगर किसी team ने 3 players retain किए (18 + 14 + 11 = 43 crore), तो auction में उनके पास 120 - 43 = 77 crore बचते हैं.

Retention Strategy

Teams को balance बनाना पड़ता है -- ज़्यादा retain करो तो auction purse कम बचता है, कम retain करो तो key players खो सकते हो. CSK ने 2025 mega auction में Dhoni को uncapped category में retain किया (4 crore) जो smart move था.

RTM (Right to Match) क्या है?

RTM एक special right है जो teams को auction में मिलता है. अगर कोई team अपने पुराने player को retain नहीं करती, तो वो RTM use कर सकती है.

RTM कैसे काम करता है:

1. Player auction में आता है
2. दूसरी teams bid करती हैं
3. जब final bid settle होती है, तो पुरानी team को पूछा जाता है -- "क्या आप इस price पर match करना चाहते हो?"
4. अगर पुरानी team RTM use करती है, तो player उसी team में वापस चला जाता है
5. अगर RTM use नहीं करती, तो player highest bidder की team में जाता है

RTM Limit: हर team को limited RTM cards मिलते हैं. Total retentions + RTM मिलाकर maximum limit होती है. अगर किसी team ने 3 players retain किए हैं, तो उन्हें RTM cards कम मिलेंगे.

Auction Process: Step by Step

Step 1: Player Registration

Players खुद को auction में register करते हैं. उन्हें अपना base price choose करना होता है -- यह minimum amount है जिस पर bidding शुरू होगी.

Step 2: Player Sets

Auction में players को sets में divide किया जाता है -- Marquee set (superstars), capped batters, capped bowlers, all-rounders, wicketkeepers, uncapped Indians, uncapped overseas. Marquee set सबसे पहले आता है.

Step 3: Bidding Process

1. Auctioneer player का name announce करता है और base price बताता है
2. Teams paddle raise करके bid करती हैं
3. Bidding increments fixed होते हैं (usually 10-25 lakh per increment)
4. जब कोई और team bid नहीं करती, auctioneer "Going once, going twice, SOLD!" बोलता है
5. अगर कोई team base price पर भी bid नहीं करती, तो player unsold हो जाता है

Step 4: Unsold Players

Unsold players को auction के end में दोबारा chance मिलता है accelerated auction में. कई बार teams अपना purse बचाकर बाद में unsold players पर bid करती हैं.

Overseas Player Rules

IPL में overseas (non-Indian) players के लिए specific rules हैं:

Uncapped Player Rules

Uncapped player वो है जिसने अपने country के लिए international cricket (Test, ODI, T20I) नहीं खेला. IPL में uncapped Indian players के लिए special benefits हैं:

Accelerated Auction क्या है?

Main auction rounds के बाद, अगर teams को specific slots (batters, fast bowlers, spinners, etc.) भरने हैं, तो वो specific categories की demand करती हैं. Auctioneer उन categories से unsold players को फिर से present करता है.

Accelerated auction में:

Teams जो consistently अच्छा perform करती हैं, वो इन strategies को follow करती हैं:

1. Core group retain करो: 3-4 match-winners retain करो, बाकी auction में flexibility रखो
2. Bidding wars avoid करो: किसी एक player पर emotional bidding मत करो. Budget plan stick करो
3. Uncapped gems खोजो: सस्ते uncapped players में से future stars ढूंढो (Jasprit Bumrah 2013 में सिर्फ 10 lakh में आए थे)
4. Death overs specialists: Death bowling और death batting specialists की हमेशा ज़रूरत होती है
